The Fog Cannon® has been designed to tackle the problem of airborne particles and dust generated by open mining activities, general demolition work and industrial bulk material handling.
Wet Earth is the Australian distributor of the Fog Cannon®.
The Fog Cannon® has been shown to suppresses up to 90% of airborne dust particles. The smaller units are ideal for suppressing dust where it is generated in high concentrations such as discharging onto stockpiles, discharging into ships, reclaiming from stockpiles, dumping, crushing, loading/unloading trucks. In this case the Fog Cannon is directed at the point source of dust and it rapidly suppresses the emitted dust before it can disperse. The larger units are where the Fog Cannon® are unique, as they are able to suppress the general airborne open area dust that is caused by blasting, quarries, demolition, truck and shovel mining operations and longwall miners etc. In this case the Fog Cannon® is setup so that it creates a general level of mist over the whole area, which slowly suppresses the airborne dust.
There are several models of Fog Cannon® available with different projection and reach capabilities, from a range of 30 to 250 metres and a rotation angle of approx 270° laterally but with a continuously adjustable height. This means that a single machine is capable of covering a level area of up to 130,000 square metres.
The water consumption varies from just 210 litres/min. up to 1000 litres/min. Surfactants can be also be added to the spray to either increase the performance of suppressing airborne dust or develop a crust on stockpiles.
The Fog Cannon® is electrically-powered although can also be supplied as a diesel powered or as an intrinsically-safe version for explosive atmospheres as is required for most mining applications.
Other effective applications for the Fog Cannon® include:
- Industrial and wild fire fighting, where it has been very effective;
- Airport, freeway and tunnels fire fighting and/or evacuation of smog;
- Solvent dispersal, to assist the cleanup of spillage;
- Odor control at the waste disposal and garbage landfilling;
