Slimline Modular Water Tank Frequently Asked Questions
How do the Slimline Modular Water Tanks Work ?
The Slinline Modular Water Tanks have 2 major elements, external panels and an internal water tank liner.
The water tank liner holds the water. It sits directly on the ground and is held in shape by the external panels. It behaves a bit like an open top garbage bag in a rubish bin. The liner is a high quality PVC water tank liner which meets the highest standards for drinking water (AS 2070 part 1, 6 and 8 for food contact and AS 4020).
The external panels are a galvanised steel frame with colorbond inserts. The frame constrains the internal water tank liner and also protects it.
What tools do I need to install it ?
The following are the tools that you would need:
- a medium philips head (cross tip) screw driver;
- a large spanner;
- stanley knife or sharp sizers;
- electric (recommended) or battery powered (with spare battery) drill;
- ladder / chair so you can get in and out of the water tank;
- something (mat, old carpet, towels etc) to put under your chair/ladder in the water tank to protect the liner;
Does it need a concrete base ?
No the slimline modular water tanks do not require a concrete base. The water tank liner sits directly on the ground so as long is the ground is clean and level you can use whatever base you want. The tank frame does need to be supported so tank frame stays level. If the ground can become soft then we recommend placing some pavers under the tank frame to support it.
How big are the pieces - can I get it x ?
The tank is delivered on a pallet and the largest pieces are are follows:
- Corner Vertical Piece: 75mm x 50mm x your height: max 7.1kg
- Colorbond sheet: max 0.86m x 0.95m: 2.9kg
- U shaped top trim piece: 25mm x 0.8m x your width: 4kg
- Liner eg 3.96m long: 0.3m x 0.3m x 0.4m: 2kg
The basic rule is that if you can get into the location yourself then you will be able to get the pieces in there.
What does installation involve ?
We provide a detailed instruction guide with the tank. The tank is built from the inside and top - you do not need to access any of the sides of the tank other than to get in and out and reach the top. You also need to be able to physically climb in and out of tank using a ladder or couple of chairs. Although one person can put the tank together it is easier with two. To estimate the time it will take to put the tank together (2 people) use one hour per meter length plus one hour ie a 3.12m long tank will take (3.12hrs plus 1hr) 4-5hrs.
Do I need to tell you where to position the inlet, outlet and overflow ?
The tanks are designed so you can position these connections where you want when you put the tank together. The inlet is in the top and the overflow and outlet are on the ends. You can choose when putting the tank together if you want the overflow and outlet at the same ends or different ends.
